Notion pricing: what the AI in your seat actually buys

Notion pricing charges per member per month, and since May 2025 the seat includes Notion AI rather than selling it as a $10 add-on. Business and Enterprise seats carry chat, meeting notes and enterprise search at no extra cost. What the seat doesn't carry is Custom Agents, Workers and premium models, which run on a separate currency called Notion credits at $10 per 1,000.

Key takeaways

  • Notion seats cost $12 and $24 per member monthly for Plus and Business, dropping to $10 and $20 when billed yearly.

  • Notion AI comes with Business and Enterprise seats. Free and Plus get a trial whose size Notion doesn't publish.

  • Custom Agents, Workers and premium models spend Notion credits at $10 per 1,000 monthly, or $13 per 1,000 annually.

  • Included AI sits under a two-window usage allowance, rolling six-hour and monthly, and Notion publishes neither number.

What Notion actually meters

Notion meters two different things and names only one of them.

Notion credits are the published unit. A credit is a workspace-level balance, shared across every member and every agent, that Custom Agents, Workers and premium AI models draw down. Notion won't say what one credit buys, and the help centre is candid about why: credit burn depends on how much content an agent reads, how many tool calls it makes, how often it runs, and which model it picks. The guidance is directional, not arithmetic.

Premium models are the exception, and the one place Notion publishes a real rate. It charges tokens at each provider's published rates with no markup, which makes that half of the bill as forecastable as going to the provider directly.

The usage allowance is the unnamed unit. Included AI on Business and Enterprise runs under two windows at once, a rolling six-hour one and a monthly billing-cycle one, covering your personal Notion Agent, image generation and page translation. Hit either and those features pause. Notion publishes neither window's size anywhere, and states outright that it may change the allowances, the features affected and how they're calculated. You can see your own consumption in Settings, and only after the fact. AI Meeting Notes sits outside the allowance under its own 10-hour daily cap, which is the single hard number in the system.

How credits work

Credits come in two flavours and neither rolls over. Monthly credits cost $10 per 1,000, bill alongside the subscription, and reset each month with unused balance lost. Annual credits cost $13 per 1,000, get paid upfront, and expire at renewal with unused balance lost. Notion is explicit that annual credits cost more because you can spend them at any point in the year, which is a fair way to price flexibility.

Deduction order is published, which is rarer than it should be: monthly first, then annual, then on-demand. Credits are pooled workspace-wide rather than per seat, so every agent draws from one balance no matter who built it. Credits have no cash value.

Admins get real controls on top. They can cap credit spend per member or group for premium models, set a workspace-wide default limit, and manage all of it through the Admin API, which exposes credit limit policies with a per-policy monthly amount and a selector for a single user or all members. Very few vendors in this index ship an API for their own spending controls.

What happens when you hit the limit

Notion pauses rather than charges, which is the buyer-friendly default.

Run out of credits and Custom Agents pause automatically until credits reset or an admin adds more. Premium models pause too. The API reflects it honestly: an agent blocked this way reports paused_reason: workspace_credit_limit instead of showing as active. Agents billed outside Notion credits stay running.

Hit the AI usage allowance and included features pause until the six-hour window refreshes or the billing cycle turns over. Spending credits to keep going is off by default, and an admin has to enable it workspace-wide.

Auto Adjust handles top-ups, and its behaviour deserves attention. It triggers at 80% of your limit, and each adjustment permanently raises your recurring monthly credit amount rather than adding a one-off purchase. It compounds until it reaches the spending cap you set. Admins get notified at 80% and 100%. It's off by default.

Flexprice’s Take

Notion absorbed AI into the seat and then quietly built a second meter beside it, and only one of the two is documented.

Notion does the credit half well. You get a published rate at $10 per 1,000, a published deduction order of monthly, then annual, then on-demand, a pooled workspace balance, per-member caps, and an Admin API for those caps. Premium models bill at each provider's token rates with no markup, which buys trust cheaply.

Auto Adjust is the rough edge. It fires at 80% of your limit and permanently raises your recurring monthly credit amount, so it's a plan change dressed as a convenience. Notion says so in the help doc, which isn't the same as not doing it.

The allowance half is where planning breaks. Business buyers are told AI is included, then told it's included up to a rolling six-hour and monthly limit, then told Notion publishes neither number. A cap you can only find by hitting it isn't something you can size a rollout against.

Best For

Teams that want AI in the seat price and predictable agent costs on top.

Watch Out For

The undisclosed usage allowance, and Auto Adjust's permanent ratchet.
